Towing

Michael Sewell uses his Sierra to tow his motorcycle, and Vance Meischen is an avid outdoorsman, so his Sierra is a tow vehicle for his boat and camper trailer. There are a lot of features built into the Sierra that help when towing, things above and beyond the transmission’s Tow/Haul mode and trailer sway control. Available Lane departure warning helps an owner keep their truck in the lane. The small convex mirror on the driver-side mirror, is an effective way to see traffic around a trailer.

Both Sewell and Meischen were quite impressed with the comfort and power while towing with their Sierras, and Meischen noted that the rearview camera, which displays in a screen on the dash, makes it very easy for him to line up his truck to a trailer. And, with all three engines, the Sierra can boast best-in-class towing capacity: 7200 pounds with the V-6, 11,500 pounds with the 5.3-liter V-8, and an expected 12,000 pounds with the 6.2-liter V-8. A max trailering package is coming as well, with a 9.76-inch rear axle with 3.73:1 axle ratio, trailer brake controller, automatic locking rear differential, heavy-duty radiator, and heavy-duty rear springs. An external transmission oil cooler is also available.
