For the first time, GMC is offering a choice of two beds behind the crew cab layout: either a 5-foot-8-inch bed or, new for 2014, a 6-foot-5-inch bed. Owner Vance Meischen was so happy with that choice, he bought a Sierra with the longer bed. He was also impressed with the bed’s CornerStep bumper, a feature that is also new for 2014 and makes climbing into the bed and accessing gear a breeze, whether the tailgate is up or down. There are built-in grips that make access even easier.
GMC offers other smart features to make it easier to carry, organize, and remove cargo: there are upper tie downs (standard) that an owner can move to nine different locations on the bed. The tie downs can withstand a 250-pound load. Cool options include LED lights located under the bed rails, which can light up the bed, and an EZ Lift and Lower tailgate that uses a torsion bar to make the tailgate easier to raise and lower.
