Sierra’s new cargo box is all about ease of use. A redesigned rear bumper with integrated steps allows Sierra owners to easily step up into the bed—with the tailgate either up or down. Handgrips have been cleverly placed within the bedrail to provide a solid feel when using the bumper step. While it’s easier to get into the bed via the bumper step, lowering the tailgate is now much easier thanks to a redesigned torsion bar and damper built within the tailgate to lower it in a slow and controlled manner. LED cargo lights are also available as an option to illuminate items in the cargo box, and they work perfectly with the available tonneau cover.
To keep cargo more secure, four upper tie downs are now standard and can be placed in nine different locations. Keeping the cargo box professional grade, each tie down can handle a 250-pound load. The tailgate handle is now lockable to keep the cargo box’s valuables secured. Also new for 2014, Crew Cab customers will have the option of two bed lengths: the standard 5-foot, 8-inch bed or the new 6-foot, 6-inch bed.
